YUSUFALI: Why did not the believers – men and women – when ye heard of the affair,- put the best construction on it in their own minds and say, “This (charge) is an obvious lie”?
PICKTHAL: Why did not the believers, men and women, when ye heard it, think good of their own own folk, and say: It is a manifest untruth?
SHAKIR: Why did not the believing men and the believing women, when you heard it, think well of their own people, and say: This is an evident falsehood?
KHALIFA: When you heard it, the believing men and the believing women should have had better thoughts about themselves, and should have said, “This is obviously a big lie.”

১২। বিশ্বাসী পুরুষ ও নারীগণ ২৯৬৫ , যখন তোমরা এ কথা শুনলে – তখন কেন তোমরা তাদের সম্বন্ধে ভালো ধারণা করলে না এবং বললে না, ” ইহা তো সুস্পষ্ট অপবাদ”।

২৯৬৫। পুরুষ ও মহিলা উভয়েই কলঙ্ক রটনাতে অংশ গ্রহণ করে। এই রটনাকারীদের চিন্তা করা উচিত ছিলো যে তারা ” বিশ্বাসীদের মাতা” নবী করিমের স্ত্রী [ রা ] এবং এক জন প্রকৃত বিশ্বাসী মুসলিম রমনীর চরিত্র সম্বন্ধে কুৎসা রটনা করছে। তাদের কর্তব্য ছিলো এসব মিথ্যাকে প্রতিহত করে বলা , ” ইহা তো সুস্পষ্ট অপবাদ।”

আয়াতঃ 024.013

তারা কেন এ ব্যাপারে চার জন সাক্ষী উপস্থিত করেনি; অতঃপর যখন তারা সাক্ষী উপস্থিত করেনি, তখন তারাই আল্লাহর কাছে মিথ্যাবাদী।
Why did they not produce four witnesses? Since they (the slanderers) have not produced witnesses! Then with Allâh they are the liars.

لَوْلَا جَاؤُوا عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاء فَإِذْ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِالشُّهَدَاء فَأُوْلَئِكَ عِندَ اللَّهِ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ
Lawla jaoo AAalayhi bi-arbaAAati shuhadaa fa-ith lam ya/too bialshshuhada-i faola-ika AAinda Allahi humu alkathiboona

YUSUFALI: Why did they not bring four witnesses to prove it? When they have not brought the witnesses, such men, in the sight of Allah, (stand forth) themselves as liars!
PICKTHAL: Why did they not produce four witnesses? Since they produce not witnesses, they verily are liars in the sight of Allah.
SHAKIR: Why did they not bring four witnesses of it? But as they have not brought witnesses they are liars before Allah.
KHALIFA: Only if they produced four witnesses (you may believe them). If they fail to produce the witnesses, then they are, according to GOD, liars.

১৩। কেন তারা প্রমাণ স্বরূপ চারজন সাক্ষী উপস্থিত করলো না ? ২৯৬৬। যেহেতু তারা সাক্ষী উপস্থিত করে নাই সে কারণে , তারা আল্লাহ্‌র নিকট মিথ্যাবাদী।

২৯৬৬। যদি কেহ সন্দেহ পোষণই করে থাকে, তবে তারা তা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভাবে গ্রহণ করে নাই কেন ? অপবাদ রটনা না করে তাদের উচিত ছিলো এ ব্যাপারে অনুসন্ধান চালানো এবং প্রকৃত সত্যকে উদ্‌ঘাটন করা এবং চারজন সাক্ষীকে সংগ্রহ করা। যেহেতু তারা কুৎসা রটনা ব্যতীত সত্যকে প্রমাণ করার জন্য কোন উদ্যোগই গ্রহণ করে নাই , সুতারাং তারা মিথ্যাবাদী ও অপবাদ রটনাকারী রূপে চিহ্নিত এবং তার দরুণ যে শাস্তি, তা তাদের প্রাপ্য।

মন্তব্য : উপরের আয়াতগুলির মাধ্যমে মহিলাদের রক্ষা করার কি অপূর্ব বিধান আল্লাহ্‌ প্রেরণ করেছেন। হযরত আয়েশা [রা] পর্দ্দা প্রথা চালু হওয়ার পরেও মহিলা হওয়া সত্বেও যুদ্ধের মত কঠিন কর্মে অংশ গ্রহণ করেন। এই ঘটনার প্রেক্ষিতে , পর্দ্দা প্রথা সত্বেও, মহিলাদের বাইরের পৃথিবীর কর্মকান্ডে অংশগ্রহণ নিষিদ্ধ করে কোনও আয়াত অবতীর্ণ হয় নাই। বরং এসব মিথ্যা কুৎসা রটনাকারীদের কঠোর শাস্তির বর্ণনা করে আয়াত অবতীর্ণ হয়েছে। অর্থাৎ মেয়েদের কর্ম জগত শুধুমাত্র ঘরে-ই আল্লাহ্‌ সীমাবদ্ধ রাখেন নাই। বাইরেও তাদের কর্ম জগতের অবশ্যই বিস্তৃতি ঘটবে এবং সেখানে যারা এসব মহিলাদের বিরুদ্ধে কুৎসা রটনা করবে পুরুষ বা নারী যেই হোক না কেন তাদের আশিটি বেত্রাঘাত ও নাগরিক অধিকার হরণ করা হবে। সুতারাং বাহিরের কর্মজগত মহিলাদের কাজের উপযোগী করার নির্দ্দেশই দেয়া হয়েছে পুরুষদের। বিবি আয়েশার [রা ] জীবনের মাধ্যমে আল্লাহ্‌ বিশ্বের নারী জাতির ভবিষ্যতকে নিরাপদ করেছেন। কিন্তু দুঃখের বিষয় মুসলিম সমাজ কোরানের এই শিক্ষা থেকে বহু দূরে।

আয়াতঃ 024.014

যদি ইহকালে ও পরকালে তোমাদের প্রতি আল্লাহর অনুগ্রহ ও দয়া না থাকত, তবে তোমরা যা চর্চা করছিলে, তজ্জন্যে তোমাদেরকে গুরুতর আযাব স্পর্শ করত।
Had it not been for the Grace of Allâh and His Mercy unto you in this world and in the Hereafter, a great torment would have touched you for that whereof you had spoken.

وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِي مَا أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ
Walawla fadlu Allahi AAalaykum warahmatuhu fee alddunya waal-akhirati lamassakum fee ma afadtum feehi AAathabun AAatheemun
