YUSUFALI: They ask thee concerning the New Moons. Say: They are but signs to mark fixed periods of time in (the affairs of) men, and for Pilgrimage. It is no virtue if ye enter your houses from the back: It is virtue if ye fear Allah. Enter houses through the proper doors: And fear Allah: That ye may prosper.
PICKTHAL: They ask thee, (O Muhammad), of new moons, say: They are fixed seasons for mankind and for the pilgrimage. It is not righteousness that ye go to houses by the backs thereof (as do the idolaters at certain seasons), but the righteous man is he who wardeth off (evil). So go to houses by the gates thereof, and observe your duty to Allah, that ye may be successful.
SHAKIR: They ask you concerning the new moon. Say: They are times appointed for (the benefit of) men, and (for) the pilgrimage; and it is not righteousness that you should enter the houses at their backs, but righteousness is this that one should guard (against evil); and go into the houses by their doors and be careful (of your duty) to Allah, that you may be successful.
KHALIFA: They ask you about the phases of the moon! Say, “They provide a timing device for the people, and determine the time of Hajj.” It is not righteous to beat around the bush; righteousness is attained by upholding the commandments and by being straightforward. You shall observe GOD, that you may succeed.

১৮৯। লোকে তোমাকে নূতন চাঁদ সম্বন্ধে প্রশ্ন করে ২০২। বল, ‘এটি তো [মানুষের কার্যকাল] সময়ের ব্যাপ্তিকালকে নির্দিষ্ট করার চিহ্ন এবং হজ্বের [সময়ের নির্দেশক]। পশ্চাৎ দিক দিয়ে গৃহে প্রবেশে কোন পূণ্য নাই। পূণ্য আছে আল্লাহ্‌কে ভয় করার মধ্যে। সঠিক দরজা দিয়ে গৃহে প্রবেশ কর ২০৩। আল্লাহ্‌কে ভয় কর যেনো তোমরা সফলতা লাভ করতে পার।

২০২। নূতন চাঁদ দেখা সম্বন্ধে অনেক ধরণের কুসংস্কার তখনকার আরব সমাজে চালু ছিল। এখানে আমাদের ঐসব কুসংস্কারকে পরিত্যাগ করতে বলা হয়েছে। মুসলমান সমাজে নূতন চাঁদের গুরুত্ব সমধিক। নূতন চাঁদ অনুযায়ী রোজা শুরু হয়, হজ্ব হয়, ঈদ হয় ইত্যাদি। সে যুগে আরবেরা নূতন চাঁদ দেখে তীর্থ যাত্রার আগে ও পরে বাড়ীর সামনের দরজা দিয়ে প্রবেশ না করে পিছনের দরজা দিয়ে করতো। এগুলিকে ইসলাম অনুমোদন করে না। ইসলাম ধর্মে কুসংস্কারের স্থান নাই। কুসংস্কার দ্বারা আত্মিক উন্নতি লাভ হয় না। আত্মিক উন্নতির চাবিকাঠি হচ্ছে চারিত্রিক গুণাবলী অর্জন। আর এই গুণাবলীর ভিত্তি হবে আল্লাহ্‌র প্রতি ভালবাসা, আল্লাহ্‌ ভীতি বা ‘তাকওয়া’।

২০৩। ‘তোমরা [উপযুক্ত] দরজা দিয়ে ঘরে প্রবেশ কর।’ এই লাইনটির বহুজন বহু অর্থ করেছেন। এর কয়েকটি নিম্নরূপ (১) তোমরা যখন কোনও নূতন সমাজে প্রবেশ লাভ করবে এর আচার, আচরণ ও সংস্কৃতিকে শ্রদ্ধা করবে। (২) যদি কোনও উদ্দেশ্য সফল করতে চাও সম্মানজনকভাবে এবং সৎ পথে, তবে তার জন্য আইন অনুযায়ী অগ্রসর হবে, সুবিধা লাভের জন্য ‘পিছনের দরজার [Back Door] আশ্রয় নেবে না। (৩) কোনও বক্তব্য উপস্থাপনের সময়ে সোজাসুজি উপস্থাপন করবে ‘Do not beat around the bush’। (৪) যদি কোনও কাজে বা মিশনে সাফল্য চাও তবে তার জন্য যত রকম প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া সম্ভব তা গ্রহণ করবে।

আয়াতঃ 002.190

আর লড়াই কর আল্লাহর ওয়াস্তে তাদের সাথে, যারা লড়াই করে তোমাদের সাথে। অবশ্য কারো প্রতি বাড়াবাড়ি করো না। নিশ্চয়ই আল্লাহ সীমালঙ্ঘনকারীদেরকে পছন্দ করেন না।
And fight in the Way of Allâh those who fight you, but transgress not the limits. Truly, Allâh likes not the transgressors. [This Verse is the first one that was revealed in connection with Jihâd, but it was supplemented by another (V.9:36)].

وَقَاتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ وَلاَ تَعْتَدُواْ إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُحِبِّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ
Waqatiloo fee sabeeli Allahi allatheena yuqatiloonakum wala taAAtadoo inna Allaha la yuhibbu almuAAtadeena

YUSUFALI: Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors.
PICKTHAL: Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities. Lo! Allah loveth not aggressors.
SHAKIR: And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits.
KHALIFA: You may fight in the cause of GOD against those who attack you, but do not aggress. GOD does not love the aggressors.

১৯০। যারা তোমাদের সাথে যুদ্ধ করে তোমরাও আল্লাহ্‌র পথে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ কর ২০৪। কিন্তু সীমা লঙ্ঘন করো না। নিশ্চয়ই আল্লাহ্‌ সীমালঙ্ঘনকারীগনকে ভালোবাসেন না।
