YUSUFALI: Seest thou not that the ships sail through the ocean by the Grace of Allah?- that He may show you of His Signs? Verily in this are Signs for all who constantly persevere and give thanks.
PICKTHAL: Hast thou not seen how the ships glide on the sea by Allah’s grace, that He may show you of His wonders? Lo! therein indeed are portents for every steadfast, grateful (heart).
SHAKIR: Do you not see that the ships run on in the sea by Allah’s favor that He may show you of His signs? Most surely there are signs in this for every patient endurer, grateful one.
KHALIFA: Do you not see that the ships roam the sea, carrying GOD’s provisions, to show you some of His proofs? Indeed, these should be sufficient proofs for everyone who is steadfast, appreciative.

৩১। তুমি কি দেখ নাই জাহাজ সকল আল্লাহ্র অনুগ্রহে সমুদ্রে চলাচল করছে যার দ্বারা তিনি তোমাদের তাঁর নিদর্শনসমূহ দেখাতে পারেন ? যারা সর্বদা ধৈর্যশীল [ অধ্যবসায়ী ] তাদের জন্য এগুলির মধ্যে অবশ্যই নিদর্শন রয়েছে ৩৬২০।
৩৬২০। মানুষ প্রকৃতিকে জয় করেছে। প্রকৃতির বিভিন্ন শক্তিকে নিজস্ব প্রয়োজনে ব্যবহার করতে শিখেছে। প্রকৃতির মাঝে অন্তর্নিহিত যে শক্তি সে সবই আল্লাহ্র সৃষ্টি ও মানুষের কল্যাণের জন্য তা মানুষের বশীভূত করে দেয়া হয়েছে। মানুষ প্রকৃতিকে জয় করতে পারে। কারণ এ ক্ষমতা আল্লাহ্ তাঁকে দান করেছেন। এ সবই যে স্রষ্টার অসীম অনুগ্রহ মানুষের জন্য, সাধারণ মানুষ তা অনুধাবন করতে পারে না। তারাই স্রষ্টার নিদর্শন ও অনুগ্রহকে অন্তরে উপলব্ধি করতে পারে যারা দৃঢ়, অবিচলিত, অধ্যবসায়ী, [ সবর অবলম্বনকারীর বৈশিষ্ট্য ] এবং যারা আল্লাহ্র অনুগ্রহের জন্য কৃতজ্ঞ। এখানে “Sabbar” শব্দটি “Sabr” শব্দটির তীব্রতা বোঝানোর জন্য ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। “Sabr” শব্দটির জন্য দেখুন টিকা ৬১। আল্লাহকে আত্মার মাঝে অনুভবের জন্য ধৈর্যশীল ও কৃতজ্ঞ হওয়া হচ্ছে চরিত্রের পূর্বশর্ত। প্রকৃত মুসলমানের চরিত্রে এ দুটি চারিত্রিক গুণাবলী অবশ্যই থাকতে হবে।
আয়াতঃ 031.032
যখন তাদেরকে মেঘমালা সদৃশ তরংগ আচ্ছাদিত করে নেয়, তখন তারা খাঁটি মনে আল্লাহকে ডাকতে থাকে। অতঃপর তিনি যখন তাদেরকে স্থলভাগের দিকে উদ্ধার করে আনেন, তখন তাদের কেউ কেউ সরল পথে চলে। কেবল মিথ্যাচারী, অকৃতজ্ঞ ব্যক্তিই আমার নিদর্শনাবলী অস্বীকার করে।
And when a wave covers them like shades (i.e. like clouds or the mountains of seawater), they invoke Allâh, making their invocations for Him only. But when He brings them safe to land, there are among them those that stop in the middle, between (Belief and disbelief). But none denies Our Signs except every perfidious ungrateful.
وَإِذَا غَشِيَهُم مَّوْجٌ كَالظُّلَلِ دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَّا كُلُّ خَتَّارٍ كَفُورٍ
Wa-itha ghashiyahum mawjun kaalththulali daAAawoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu alddeena falamma najjahum ila albarri faminhum muqtasidun wama yajhadu bi-ayatina illa kullu khattarin kafoorin
YUSUFALI: When a wave covers them like the canopy (of clouds), they call to Allah, offering Him sincere devotion. But when He has delivered them safely to land, there are among them those that halt between (right and wrong). But none reject Our Signs except only a perfidious ungrateful (wretch)!
PICKTHAL: And if a wave enshroudeth them like awnings, they cry unto Allah, making their faith pure for Him only. But when He bringeth them safe to land, some of them compromise. None denieth Our signs save every traitor ingrate.
SHAKIR: And when a wave like mountains covers them they call upon Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, but when He brings them safe to the land, some of them follow the middle course; and none denies Our signs but every perfidious, ungrateful one.
KHALIFA: When violent waves surround them, they implore GOD, sincerely devoting their prayers to Him alone. But as soon as He saves them to the shore, some of them revert. None discards our revelations except those who are betrayers, unappreciative.
৩২। যখন উত্তাল তরঙ্গমালা [ মেঘের ] চাঁদোয়ার মত তাদের ঢেকে দেয়, তারা একান্ত অনুগতভাবে আল্লাহকে ডাকে ৩৬২১। কিন্তু যখন তিনি তাদের নিরাপদে স্থলভাগে পৌঁছিয়ে দেন, তাদের মধ্যে কেহ কেহ [ন্যায় -অন্যায়ের ] মাঝামাঝি থেমে থাকে ৩৬২২। কিন্তু বিশ্বাসঘাতক অকৃতজ্ঞ [ হতভাগ্য ] ব্যতীত কেহ আমার নিদর্শনসমূহ প্রত্যাখান করে না।
